Mattu University, since its establishment in the country as a higher learning institution in 2004 E.C., has had a Department of Sport Science, one of the Departments in Mettu University under the Natural and Computational Sciences College, which was established in 2005 E.C. The Department of Sport Science is providing the physical fitness course as a common course for all departments for highly qualified intellectual individuals with the concepts of equipping them to be mentally alert, physically strong, prevent hyphokinetic disease, and be socially responsible individuals. In 2005 E.C., the Department started working by taking 57 students from 161 students assigned to the College of Natural Science with two MSc holders in Sport Science, offering an Undergraduate Bachelor of Sport Science with regular and summer programs.
