About the Department
Department of Civics and Ethics Studies was established in 2007 E.C. under the then faculty of Social Science and Humanities now College of Social Science and Humanities. Before the establishment of the department, Civics and Ethical Studies program has been offered common courses for both Regular and Weekend program under the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities. In addition to this, Civic and Ethical Education course has also been offered as a common course to all colleges of the university under the same department for a long period of time. Furthermore, the department of Civics and Ethical Studies contain under graduate and Post graduate programs, namely: Bachelor of Art (BA) in Civics and Ethical Studies in Regular, Weekend and Summer Program. And also this department also hosted one MA program, MA in Peace and Development Studies in Regular, Weekend and Summer Program. In the Future our department has an interest to add post graduate programmes to produce competent graduates in the arenas (Peace and Security studies, International Relations and Diplomacy, Governance and Development Studies and Federal Studies) which will puts its own finger prints in the sustainable development of our country. In addition to the academic programs hosted within the Department Structure, Currently Civics and Ethical Studies Department is providing various common courses (Logic and Critical Thinking, Global Trends and Moral and Civic Education) for all freshman students across Mattu University in all Programs.

HoD's Message
It is my pleasure writing this message on behalf head department of Civics and Ethical Studies at Mattu University (MaU). The department of Civics and Ethical Studies has been playing its pivotal role to the progress and development of the country through teaching, research and community services. The Department of Civics and Ethics Studies under the college of Social Science and Humanities run both undergraduate and postgraduate programs that equip our graduates with theoretical underpinning and practical skills which enable them to contribute significantly to ensure social justice, nation-state building and economic transformation of the country. The Department has been strongly working to produce strong and hardworking graduates that develop the required skills and attitude beyond the theoretical knowledge. The Department has also been engaged in research and community services beyond the teaching-learning activities. It encourages the academic staff to embark on problem solving researches across the country. Most of our academic staffs have been conducting different researches under different themes funded by the college and other institutions in the country. The academic staffs of Department of Civics and Ethical Studies actively engaged on various research activities related to law, human right, constitution and constitutionalism, election and electoral systems, democracy and good governance, conflict management, international relations, diplomacy, moral and ethics, public management, environmental management, population studies, policy analysis and etc. By its very nature, Department of Civics and Ethical Studies is accommodative and multidisciplinary for most social science field of studies. Disciplinary, thematic and collaborative research activities are among others, where our academic staffs are widely contributing to the academia and problem solving findings to the local community.

Ø Making Civics and Ethical Studies a preferable field and thereby contributes in the development of the country and our university by engaging in problem solving research works and need based community services that alleviates the community’s problems.
Mission
- As one of the Departments established in Mattu University to produce competent and efficient graduates, conducting problem solving researches and delivering multidimensional community services to alleviate community problems.
- Producing graduates well-equipped with knowledge, skills and attitudes by offering quality education as one of the departments established in Mattu University and
- Conducting problem-solving researches and performing activities that benefit the University as well as the surrounding community and thereby contributing its best in achieving the University’s Mission.
