About the Department
Journalism and Communication department was established at Mattu University in 2021G.C. aiming at producing talented communication professionals and media practitioners. The department started teaching-learning activities with a few instructors by accepting 15 students as a first batch of 2021G.C. The field is closely connected arenas that involve the creation, distribution, and analysis of information through various media channels. Journalism and communication is a double faced profession that generates crucial knowledge on both communication Journalism/media perspectives. Journalism is the practice of gathering, analyzing, and presenting news and information to the public. Journalists work in various media formats, including print, broadcast, online, and digital platforms. They investigate and report on current events, issues, and trends, often serving as watchdogs by holding individuals, organizations, and governments accountable. Journalism plays a critical role in informing the public, shaping public opinion, and fostering transparency in society. Key skills in journalism include research, interviewing, writing, editing, fact-checking, and ethical decision-making.
On the other hand, Communication encompasses the study and practice of conveying information, ideas, and messages through verbal, nonverbal, and visual means. Communication professionals work in diverse fields such as public relations, advertising, marketing, corporate communication, digital media, social media management, and more. They are responsible for crafting effective messages, managing organizational communication strategies, building relationships with stakeholders, and engaging audiences through various communication channels. Key skills in communication include strategic planning, interpersonal communication, media production, audience analysis, and understanding the impact of communication on individuals and society. Both journalism and communication share a common foundation in ethical principles, critical thinking, and effective storytelling. They also intersect in areas such as media ethics, media law, media effects, and the evolving role of technology in shaping how information is produced and consumed. Mattu University also primarily considered these all advantages and interested to open and run the department.
Generally, Journalism and Communication are dynamic fields that play a vital role in shaping public discourse, influencing public opinion, and driving social change. They offer diverse career opportunities for individuals passionate about storytelling, information dissemination, and the power of effective communication.

Journalism and Communication department graduated 14 students at 2024 G.C; now it continues teaching-learning process by holding 35 candidate graduate students, with four instructors and one lab technician.
