About the Department
Background of the department
Mechanical Engineering Department in Mattu University has commenced its career in 2004 E.C. It is one of the nine departments available in the College of Engineering and Technology at Mattu University. The faculty of Engineering and Technology was renamed as College of Engineering and Technology in 2013 E.C following the restructuring of the various Faculties of the University. The department currently offers a program leading to a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering with duration of 5 years in the regular program. Enrolling was officially started in the stated academic year with an initial intake of 31 students with the new curriculum policy.
Currently, the department has about 27 staff members and teaching about 21 students in the regular undergraduate program. According to the statistics, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has graduated 524 graduates with B.Sc. Degree during the period 2008 E.C – 2016 E.C. The department believes in cultivating the full potential of students, and the advancement of all forms of knowledge keeping in pace with international standards of academic quality, including the high skilled employment needs presented by a growing economy operating in global environment. The objective of the Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Program is to provide broad-based educational training in mechanical engineering and its applications leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree. Its goal is to enable graduates to meet the challenges of the engineering profession in a rapidly changing environment that exists in a developing country like Ethiopia.
