About the Department
Animal science department was established in 2008E.C by four staffs’ members. The department was established with the aim of preparing the next generation of animal care professionals. We train qualified and skilled individuals to excel in all areas of animal science, contributing to advancements both within Ethiopia and abroad. We also aim to equip students with the research skills needed to thrive in various settings, including:
Research centers and universities
Colleges and government agencies
Non-governmental organizations
Private businesses
Impactful Education:
With over 230 undergraduate students, The Animal Sciences program provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to:
Ø Develop expert knowledge in animal production, genetics, and health.
Ø Foster practical skills in research, technology transfer, and problem-solving.
Ø Encourage entrepreneurial thinking for self-employment opportunities
Funded project:
The department got fund support with the title of “Livestock Transformation Project (LTP) to serve community especially on Dairy cattle production for consecutive three years. The project was funded by Ministry of Innovation Technology and Mattu University
Graduated Students:
Up to now, about 192 students were graduated with the professionals of Animal science.
